OUR TEAM - Advisory Board - Members

Admiral Capital has established a Board of Senior Advisors comprised of successful business executives who bring with them broad experience in the areas of acquisitions, private equity investing, operations, finance, banking, legal, accounting, IT, organizational development and human resources.

This Board is expected to provide valuable advice and contributions in the areas of deal analysis, due diligence, strategic and overall business planning, and deal-sourcing, as well as timely exiting. Current members include V. Russell Benedikt, the retired President, CEO and owner of A-1 Carbide Corp., John C. Roberts, CPA, a Principal of Management Resource Partners, and Steven Stallings, an elected member of the Rincon Band of Luiseno Indians Tribal Council and a member of its Investment Committee. Steve is currently the Senior Vice President and Director of Well’s Fargo’s Native American Banking Services. Following is a brief bio on each of these three individuals:

V. Russell Benedikt (Russ)
Benedikt has been a friend and partner of Upshur for over thirty years. Having met and been impressed with Russ during the investigation of a potential portfolio company investment while at Del Rey, when a controllership position opened up at one of Del Rey’s portfolio companies (A-1 Carbide or “A-1”) that seemed to fit with Benedikt’s accounting and finance background, Upshur introduced him into the company. Upshur later helped Benedikt purchase a minority interest in A-I, succeed to the position of President and later buy out the management partner to whom Del Rey had since sold their interest. In the early 90’s, Upshur identified a buying group to which a 49% interest was sold and less than 4 years later helped sell the entire company to Greenfield Industries. Benedikt, who now resides in Bend, OR with his wife and two children, is an active and sophisticated investor in his own right.

John C. Roberts (JR)
Roberts has been a friend, and business partner of Mr. Upshur on a number of occasions spanning a period of 30+ years beginning when Roberts was Upshur’s initial boss in the private equity business. Since then, Upshur and Roberts have collaborated on the successful acquisition of or investment in a number of companies including A-1 Carbide (see above), American ‘R’ Corp, the Cockatoo and Hacienda Hotels and Bayline Paper Products. Prior to joining Del Rey, Mr. Roberts was VP-Finance of Arizona Land and Cattle and before that Director of Planning for Occidental Petroleum. JR left Del Rey, to become VP of Corp Development for Natomas, a major diversified oil, energy and shipping company headquartered in San Francisco. Roberts has also held a number of other senior management positions and in addition to being a CPA, obtained his MBA from the Harvard Business School and undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada, Reno.
